The city of Antioch can be found in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area along the banks of San Joaquin River just off Highway 4 in Contra Costa County. The city has a total area of 27.6 square miles, 27 square miles of the area is composed of land and just 0.6 square miles of it is water. In 2000 the city has a total of 90,532 people living in the area and grown up to 100,219 based on the recently conducted census.
At first Antioch was just a small town of California founded in 1850 by two brothers named William and Joseph Smith. In the year 1851 the town name was changed by the minister to the town of Antioch, after the Biblical city of Antioch, Syria. Antioch was once the home of a significant Chinese-American community, but the rest of the town’s population violently drove all its Chinese-American residents out of town in May 1876.
Unlike with the other cities in Bay Area, Antioch is somewhat a undeveloped and preserved region. Many of the lands are still remains affordable and bountiful. The city of Antioch has become one of the most affordable housing market in the area of California. Antioch Real Estate homes are way much cheaper by 20-30 percent compared with the other cities in Contra Costa County.
