Last year, it was a bountiful year in Los Angeles area as luxurious properties went sold and listed in the MLS. Some of these hot properties for sale took place outside the Multiple Listing Service where mega-million-dollar transactions are being made possible. These transactions were marketed by agents as “pocket listings” where buyers and seller work through lawyers to transact the business.
As identified by real estate data provider PropertyShark.com and based from Times’ earlier reports, here’s the list of top luxury homes sold in Los Angeles County in 2009.
- Sold for about $35 million in October, the luxury home owned by Simon Ramo, co-founder of the aerospace and defense company TRW which was purchased by DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg. So far it was the biggest priced house for sale last year. Built in 1965, the house has an area of 8,704 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms and sits on 6.3 acres of land.
- A mansion was released and sold for $31.5 million in Beverly Hills last April 2009. The house was around 27,000 square feet, French Normandy inspired house. It includes 10 bedrooms, 14 bathrooms and seven fireplaces nestled in a 2 acres land. The luxury house was built with a circular library with a glass floor revealing a 2,500-bottle wine cellar below, and an indoor swimming pool with a gym. According to MLS, Mauricio Umansky of Hilton & Hyland, Beverly Hills who had the listing, and Simon Darvish of Audrey Max Estates, Beverly Hills, represented as buyer.
- It was followed by a $26.5 million house situated in Bel-Air sold in July last year. The 25,000 square feet gated house has 8 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and over viewing a city and ocean nestled on a 1.25 acres of land. Another Bel-Air property sold for 22 million dollar in March has four bedrooms and seven bathrooms and built in 2006. To complete the top five expensive homes’ list, a $19.9 million house situated in Beverly Hills’ Trousdale Estates area was sold last December 2009. According to L.A. County Assessor’s office, the said property has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms included in a 7,459 square feet area of the house.
